Surviving Heart Transplant and Finding Secrets of the Medical System
Ted Gordon developed hereditary heart problems culminating with three heart attacks by age 27, and heart transplant at age 67. Ted learned how to redefine his self-image, make others comfortable with his illness, and accept his limitations. He never expected to survive, and when he did, Ted needed to relearn how to enjoy life and to be proud of his new “normal.” Finding how to accept and appreciate who you are requires leaning many life lessons, as does learning how to direct and manage your medical care.
A reader in London, England stated the book was “easy reading [and] highly informative,” while a reader in Italy found the book “a great story and much very useful information.” A reader in Canada was very praiseworthy in stating: “a guide from someone who’s been there and who writes with a human and friendly perspective.” A US reader stated, “Ted’s book is both informative, but also endearing from its anecdotal style. I cannot recommend this book enough.”
The last half of the book, Ted discusses many varied subjects, including sex, dating, divorce, health insurance, American with Disability Act, what to tell your employer, medical leave laws, health care directives, paying medical bills, appealing medical bills, and fighting for your rights.
